What are smokeless cigarettes?
Smokeless cigarettes, also known as electronic cigarettes, ecigs, personal vaporizers or PV's, are a type of electronic inhaler that delivers nicotine without all the nasty chemicals contained in traditional cigarettes. They are often used by people who wish to quit smoking traditional cigarettes. They are made to mimic the effects of normal smoking, but have benefits that regular cigarettes don't. They are not marketed as a quit smoking aid, however many people have found success by switching to smokeless cigarettes.
How do smokeless cigarettes or electronic cigarettes work?
E cigs have three main components. These components are the cartridge, the atomizer and the battery.
The cartridge is a small plastic container that serves as a mouthpiece and contains the e liquid. It allows the e liquid to pass to the atomizer where it is turned into vapor, and then lets the vapor pass into the users mouth. This is where the term "vaping" comes from. One cartridge can equal up to 40 cigarettes, depending on the manufacturer.
The atomizer has a tiny heating coil inside, which is what produces the vapor. It is contained in the middle of the three components, with the cartridge at one end and the battery at the other.
The battery for an electronic cigarette is usually a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Some are activated automatically by inhaling from the electronic cigarette, while others require you to press a power switch. Batteries can be charged by a normal AC outlet or a USB charging cable. Some also come with portable charging cases that resemble a traditional pack of cigarettes for charging your electronic cigarette on the go.
